Daisy Lake - Algonquin Provincial Park

Daisy Lake - Algonquin Provincial Park-original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

I want be in the Group of Eight

While on a canoe trip to Algonquin Provincial Park i was captivated by the colors of the fall trees as they slowly changed from green to a rainbow of reds, yellows and oranges.

This is the first oil painting i have done and is frankly highly influenced by Tom Thompson and the other members of the candian painting group known as the Group of Seven.

Gravenhurst River Fall Day

Gravenhurst River Fall Day-original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

Babbling brooks, the fragrence and colors of fall

It was a bright breezy fall day and Scott Cramer, my sister Yvonne, my niece Gigi van Leeuwen, Jackie the fast and Capsule the wise were spending the day aimlessly driving around the back roads of northern Ontario when we stopped at this river to try our luck at a little bit of fishing.

When i got home i tried to capture the spot with leaves blowing and the rush of the water over the rocks

The Peacock Rooster

The Peacock Rooster-original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

A self portrait?

Done completely with a palette knife and oil paint, this painting started without any idea of what was to come and a broad sweep of yellow color that is now the back of this Cocky Bird. The second stroke was the arch from that are now the feathers and then one in blue that is now the belly of the beast. Stepping back i got the impression of a bird. This is what followed.

Rough Seas

original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

Riding the rough sea - safe or in danger?

Done exclusively with a palette knife and oil paint. This image is one of those that started with a free stroke of color. I wanted to try and capture the sky on the edge of a storm. Which edge i am not sure, i will leave that up to you. There was no reference for this, it was all from the inner soul. It was all about the mood and how to capture that in a moment of color and palette knife movements.

Big Trout Lake

original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

Wind swept trees clutch the rocks on the edge of the shore for dear life

This painting was done from a study that i did while on a canoe trip three days of portaging deep into Algonquin Provincial Park. My friend Bruce Rajotte and myself had paddled and portaged here and made camp for a few days of relaxation.

I wanted to portray the stubborness of the trees survival on a at times wind swept coastline of a large Algonquin lake. The roots clutching like fingers grappling the rocks of shore to hold on. Precariously perched and leaning over the shores edge, their trunks were twisted as they grew. These are the survivors

Capsule on White Trout Lake

original painting using oil by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

Do i have to get back in that thing?

On one of my canoe Trips to Algonquin Provincial Park, i had the pleasure of the company of my friend Scott Cramers dog, Capsule. He was a great companion and we stopped on this rocky out crop after three days of portaging and paddling to take shelter from the winds and the rough waves of this large lake.

Union station-University Line Platform

Union station-University Line Platform - looking towards shore- original painting using oils and palette knife by freelance cork artist, web site designer and developer

Waiting for the subway the mind is awash with color

Got a bit expressive with this one. It was done with blobs of Oils using a palette knife.

As i was evolving this one, it took on the familiar feel of standing on the platform of Union Station's University Line.

Warped Entrails

If my gut exploded this is what i would see

A study of expression with a palette knife on wood. As i was blocking areas of color out, this started to remind of a little sculpture that i had done and resides quite unobtrusively just inside the door of my parents home. The shapes took on the Henry Moorish style of that piece yet dancing with a life of their own
